ISRIC World Soil Information is an independent, science-based foundation. The institute was founded in 1966 following a recommendation of the International Soil Science Society (ISSS) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It has a mandate to serve the international community with information about the worlds soil resources to help addressing major global issues. ISRIC is the ICSU World Data Centre for Soils (WDC-Soils) since 1989 and it collaborates with a wide range of partners worldwide. The ISRIC World Soil Museum is a museum that exhibits the diversity of soils in the world. The museum is a part of the data and information centre for soils, the ISRIC - World Soil information. It is located on the campus of Wageningen University and Research Centre (also known as Wageningen UR) in Wageningen, Netherlands. The design of the new building of the museum has the shape and colour of a sod of soil taken from the ground. The World Soil Museum's displays samples of the various soils from around the world. In the Dutch corner the major soils of the Netherlands are displayed. The soil profiles provide an educative insight into soils and the ecosystems in which they are found. Information about soils of the world is provided in an attractive manner through touch screens in the museum. Het ISRIC Wereldbodemmuseum biedt een overzicht van bodemprofielen van over de hele wereld. Het museum maakt onderdeel uit van het bodem informatiecentrum ISRIC - World Soil Information. Het is gevestigd op de Wageningen Campus van de Wageningen University and Research Centre (Wageningen UR) in Wageningen. Het ontwerp van het nieuwe museumgebouw heeft de vorm en kleur van een uit de bodem gestoken schep grond. Het museum toont bodems van over de hele wereld. Ook de belangrijkste grondsoorten van Nederland zijn te zien in een aparte opstelling. De grondmonsters geven niet alleen inzicht in de bodem maar ook in de daarbij behorende ecosystemen. Informatie over bodems van de wereld wordt op een aantrekkelijke manier inzichtelijk gemaakt via beeldschermen (in de Engelse taal).
